Denver Parks and Recreation greenhouse horticulturist Christie Hale takes careful stock of the rows and rows of Poinsettia plants at the City Park Greenhouses. Hale started the roughly 1,500 plants from rooted cuttings clear back in June and has cared for the holiday plants ever since. Some varieties began turning red about a month ago, and now most of the plants have reached their desired color. The plants are distributed over the coming weeks to city buildings including the mayors office, the city council chambers, recreation centers, fire departments and police stations, to name just a few.
